It is already the end of quarter 4 and it means
that this school year is already coming to an end. There were a lot of
challenges that came yet I managed to pave the way to the end. In the last few
weeks of this quarter, I have entered the face-to-face learning where I was
given the chance to enter now the school and be with my classmates. I learned
to enjoy and not to take advantage of what I have at the moments. I was able to
enter the ICT room were we learn about the MS Frontpage and I have learned to
use the application better.
It is inevitable to encounter challenges
especially in learning new things, I had faced difficulties while doing my
activity yet with the assistance of my teacher and classmates, I was able to
conquer those difficulties. It was all a great experience where I could learn
something from it.
Moving on, I will be in senior high school and I’ll
encounter different subjects that are not in junior high school. With my
experiences and learnings this school year, I will apply whenever I encounter
such difficulties.
Over the years, the number of population around
the world increases as the waste of every household also increases. Tons of
plastics and other waste are being decomposed in unseemly way. Oceans and open
spaces has been the target to where these wastes are being decomposed and what
makes it alarming is that these oceans and spaces are living habitat for
various animals. Also, these wastes have chemicals that can destroy or can be
dangerous to the nature and to the living things. The planet Earth has been in
danger because of its people that are creating such environmental issues rather
than providing a solution for the planet to continue living.
These issues had been an eye-opener to people
that they had implemented programs and organizations to protect and create a
safe place where waste do not exist. These aim to lessen and provide a solution
to the issue. However, in dealing with too much waste can be simply done in a
household. With the power of unity, dealing with wastes can never be an issue. Recycling,
reducing and reusing, plastic wastes can lessen the burden of this issue. These
ways are considered to be a small steps yet if these are performed religiously,
the number of waste in a day can be decreased. There are also alternative
things to use rather than plastics: glass, eco bags, papers etc. Enough
knowledge and initiative in doing these things can be a great help to lessen
waste.

During the Spanish-American War, Filipino rebels led by Emilio Aguinaldo proclaim the independence of the Philippines after 300 years of Spanish rule. By mid-August, Filipino rebels and U.S. troops had ousted the Spanish, but Aguinaldo’s hopes for independence were dashed when the United States formally annexed the Philippines as part of its peace treaty with Spain.
The Philippines, a large island archipelago situated off Southeast Asia, was colonized by the Spanish in the latter part of the 16th century. Opposition to Spanish rule began among Filipino priests, who resented Spanish domination of the Roman Catholic churches in the islands. In the late 19th century, Filipino intellectuals and the middle class began calling for independence. In 1892, the Katipunan, a secret revolutionary society, was formed in Manila, the Philippine capital on the island of Luzon. Membership grew dramatically, and in August 1896 the Spanish uncovered the Katipunan’s plans for rebellion, forcing premature action from the rebels. Revolts broke out across Luzon, and in March 1897, 28-year-old Emilio Aguinaldo became leader of the rebellion
By late 1897, the revolutionaries had been driven into the hills southeast of Manila, and Aguinaldo negotiated an agreement with the Spanish. In exchange for financial compensation and a promise of reform in the Philippines, Aguinaldo and his generals would accept exile in Hong Kong. The rebel leaders departed, and the Philippine Revolution temporarily was at an end.
In April 1898, the Spanish-American War broke out over Spain’s brutal suppression of a rebellion in Cuba. The first in a series of decisive U.S. victories occurred on May 1, 1898, when the U.S. Asiatic Squadron under Commodore George Dewey annihilated the Spanish Pacific fleet at the Battle of Manila Bay in the Philippines. From his exile, Aguinaldo made arrangements with U.S. authorities to return to the Philippines and assist the United States in the war against Spain. He landed on May 19, rallied his revolutionaries, and began liberating towns south of Manila. On June 12, he proclaimed Philippine independence and established a provincial government, of which he subsequently became head.
His rebels, meanwhile, had encircled the Spanish in Manila and, with the support of Dewey’s squadron in Manila Bay, would surely have conquered the Spanish. Dewey, however, was waiting for U.S. ground troops, which began landing in July and took over the Filipino positions surrounding Manila. On August 8, the Spanish commander informed the United States that he would surrender the city under two conditions: The United States was to make the advance into the capital look like a battle, and under no conditions were the Filipino rebels to be allowed into the city. On August 13, the mock Battle of Manila was staged, and the Americans kept their promise to keep the Filipinos out after the city passed into their hands.
In response, Aguinaldo formally launched a new revolt–this time against the United States. The rebels, consistently defeated in the open field, turned to guerrilla warfare, and the U.S. Congress authorized the deployment of 60,000 troops to subdue them. By the end of 1899, there were 65,000 U.S. troops in the Philippines, but the war dragged on. Many anti-imperialists in the United States, such as Democratic presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan, opposed U.S. annexation of the Philippines, but in November 1900 Republican incumbent William McKinley was reelected, and the war continued.
On March 23, 1901, in a daring operation, U.S. General Frederick Funston and a group of officers, pretending to be prisoners, surprised Aguinaldo in his stronghold in the Luzon village of Palanan and captured the rebel leader. Aguinaldo took an oath of allegiance to the United States and called for an end to the rebellion, but many of his followers fought on. During the next year, U.S. forces gradually pacified the Philippines. In an infamous episode, U.S. forces on the island of Samar retaliated against the massacre of a U.S. garrison by killing all men on the island above the age of 10. Many women and young children were also butchered. General Jacob Smith, who directed the atrocities, was court-martialed and forced to retire for turning Samar, in his words, into a “howling wilderness.”
In 1902, an American civil government took over administration of the Philippines, and the three-year Philippine insurrection was declared to be at an end. Scattered resistance, however, persisted for several years.
More than 4,000 Americans perished suppressing the Philippines–more than 10 times the number killed in the Spanish-American War. More than 20,000 Filipino insurgents were killed, and an unknown number of civilians perished.
In 1935, the Commonwealth of the Philippines was established with U.S. approval, and Manuel Quezon was elected the country’s first president. On July 4, 1946, full independence was granted to the Republic of the Philippines by the United States.
Life is a gift and given by God. Care and love
is given by the parents, among the father and mother, the mother bears the
child for nine months. Nine long months of growing womb and carrying ones’
life. Every mother would sacrifice everything for her child, a mother thinks
her child before herself and a mother will always love her child. She is a
creation of God that’ll do everything as what God had done for his people.
Every second Sunday of the month May, mother’s
day is being celebrated. In honor for their heroic acts throughout our lives,
they truly deserve recognitions. They had done everything and will still do
everything for their love ones. They brought lives to the world and will still
offer endless love. A mother offers everything can be everything: a wife,
mother, teacher, playmate, enemy, doctor and a hero. For us, their children, we
have to do our part which is to love them unconditionally. They are the one who
we home to, who we seek attention to and who we ask for their care every time
we feel sick. Giving it back is a simple love language for they are human too. They
need love, care and attention.
Our own mother gave us the chance to see what
the world has to offer, and she also protects us when the world offers
difficulty. They are always in our backs watching us grow, cheering us to
conquer our dreams and always be a mother even we get old. A mother’s love is
unconditional and for that, we, their children must respect and love them
unconditionally too.
Vigan City is a historical city that has been
preserved in time. It has its various historical events that’s still celebrated
in the present times. The Viva Vigan festival of arts is celebrated during the
first week of May which was first celebrated in 1993 by the SVAHAI to recognize
and preserve the value of the historic town. This festival has its secular
importance. The week long festivity starts on the 1st of May where
the country celebrates LABOR DAY and the whole town honors Isabelo De Los Reyes
who is the founder of the country’s first federation of labor. Also, it is the
day of remembrance of the patron saint of workers, St. Joseph.
After two-long years of the COVID-19 pandemic, Vigan
City finally celebrates Binatbatan Festival. This festivity includes a street
dancing competition which is inspired by the Iloco’s Craft, the Vigan City’s
abel. Also, the traditional dance symbolizes the cotton pads that are beaten
with bamboo sticks to release its cotton fluff called batbat.
The feast of Apo Sto. Cristo Milagroso is done
by a mass at the Simbaan na Bassit on the 3rd day of May. This
festivity is the most important religious festivity because of the belief that
the city was saved by Apo Sto. Cristo Milagroso.
Lastly, the local government prepared some
activities for the locals and tourist to enjoy.

Women are often misjudged for their fragileness and softness
when it comes in dealing such difficult situation. When the COVID-19had shut the world down, it was a the start
of a new unexpected life to live in. It turned the world upside down with its
people. Millionsof people were under
hardships and difficulties and has been struggling to survive. In celebrating
the women’s month, this ought to recognise the difficulties and rough paths
that had been trailed by women amidst pandemic and to give recognition to their
triumph in surviving an unfortunate situations.
When it comes to surviving, it requires a great strength and
endurance. Frontliners are the ones that has been moving and keep on performing
their duties as a public servant. To all women frontliners: to the nurses,
doctors, policewomen, politicians, guard lady, saleslady, teachers and etc.
These people are the ones that deserves to honor and to show gratitude to. When
the world had shut down, they did not stop yet they continued to serve for the
public. Without such heroic actions, we may not be able to survive and go
through the darkest phase of our lives. These people are also a family member
where they also have a family to go home to and waiting for them, despite the
danger that they had to go through and might bring danger to them and their
family, they had choose to help and serve for the public people. Furthermore,
there are heroic actions that were not shown and given to the public eye, the
act of surviving mothers especially to those unemployed and single mothers. The
rate of unemployment in our country had increased still due to the pandemic.
Scarcity of daily needs because of unemployment and without a stable source of
income are the reason why millions of people were barely living amidst
pandemic. However, every problem has its own solution, there is always an
alternative way to do. Online selling has become more popular and with that,
people started to got up on their own feet and survived the unfortunate
circumstances. Women had become more resilient and empowered due to the rough
path that they had gone through.
Everyone had a battle to win, had a rough path to go through
and had a demon to fight to. Amidst pandemic, scarcity and difficulties arose that
subsequently made millions of people to suffer. To all the women that barely
lived amidst pandemic and eventually survived such unfortunate circumstances,
their resiliency deserves a recognition. Women had been breaking the stereotype
about them and has been proving the capability that they possess, women are
empowered.

Every
quarter has its own level of difficultness and every time this occurs, there
are tons of ways to cope up. It has been a whirlwind during this quarter.
Having the potential to do well continuously then suddenly, a hindrance would
show up unexpectedly would ruin everything that I had build up.
I have seen
a new learning that I can use it permanently and that is: to never let yourself
be distracted over something that has no benefit in your learning. I had been
distracted the whole quarter that subsequently made me irresponsible to all my
modules. I never had the chance to think of the consequences of my wrong doings
that’s why I’ve been regretting lately. I had been thinking of things that is
unnecessary to think about, I lost focus and I was to overwhelmed of the
feeling of freedom from my school activities. However, I address this issue of
mine by regaining my consciousabout the
reality where I am a student and has tons of activities to ensue. I am student
and I aim to have high marks and be satisfied of what I had done. I should be
thinking about my responsibilities and not some bothersome that may lead my
grades to downfall.
Moving on, I
will try my best not to engage with this and be more conscious about the
reality. I will carry this learning of mine permanently so that I would do
better in coping with this kind of difficulty in the future.
